Data sources

All data is fetched by a background worker and stored in RateKite's database; pages read that stored data. Your browser never contacts the data providers.

CoinGecko

Global market data for the largest cryptocurrencies: price, market cap, 24h volume, supply, all-time high, 1h/24h/7d change, total market cap and dominance.

Update frequency: Every 3 minutes; history snapshots every 10 minutes.

Limitations: Prices and volumes are aggregated across the exchanges CoinGecko covers, not every exchange that exists. Shown in USD, converted for display.

Powered by CoinGecko

GeckoTerminal (CoinGecko on-chain API)

Token discovery (trending and newly created pools with real trading activity) and DEX pool data: price, liquidity, volume, buys/sells, price change, pool creation time; token security signals (mint/freeze authority, top-holder share) and token logos/links.

Update frequency: Market data about every minute; discovery every 2 minutes; security data every few hours per token; history snapshots every 5 minutes.

Limitations: Windows such as "1h volume" are rolling values computed by GeckoTerminal. Holder distribution is a beta dataset; RateKite subtracts the estimated liquidity-pool share. Tokens that stop trading are no longer refreshed. Powered by CoinGecko.

European Central Bank

Daily euro foreign-exchange reference rates, re-based to US dollars, for EUR, CZK, GBP, CHF, JPY, PLN, AUD and CAD display.

Update frequency: Checked hourly; the ECB publishes once per working day around 16:00 CET.

Limitations: Reference rates for information, not live trading quotes. If a rate is missing, values are shown in USD.

Forex: European Central Bank reference rates (default)

Currency-pair rates for the Forex section when no market-data provider is configured: daily euro reference rates, with non-euro pairs calculated by RateKite as exact cross rates. Daily history for charts.

Update frequency: Checked hourly; the ECB publishes once per working day around 16:00 CET. History is refreshed every 6 hours.

Limitations: Reference rates, not traded quotes: no bid/ask, no intraday high/low. The ECB must be cited as the source and calculated rates must be labelled as such — both are shown on every Forex page.

Forex: Twelve Data (optional, needs a licence)

Delayed Forex market quotes (rate, day open/high/low, previous close) and hourly/daily history, when an API key is configured.

Update frequency: Quotes hourly by default (API-credit limited); refreshing pauses while the Forex market is closed. History every 6 hours.

Limitations: Twelve Data’s terms prohibit commercial use of free-tier data and require a redistribution add-on to display data publicly. A matching paid licence is needed before enabling it on a public site.

Helius (optional)

Solana on-chain data: the 20 largest token accounts (holder concentration) and mint/freeze authority status.

Update frequency: Every 10 minutes for tokens not checked in the last 6 hours, when configured.

Limitations: Not every deployment enables it; without it, holder metrics are shown as not available.

When data is stale or missing

  • If the last successful DEX refresh is older than 10 minutes, or global quotes older than 15 minutes, pages show a stale-data notice and keep showing the last stored values.
  • If a provider is failing, a banner says so; other providers keep working independently.
  • Exchange rates published more than five days ago are flagged; with no usable rate, prices fall back to USD.
  • History is kept for 30 days by default.
